The Institut de Biologie Paris-Seine and the Institut du Fer à Moulin will merge in 2025 into a single Institute located on the Pierre & Marie Curie campus (Jussieu) of Sorbonne University. This “Fédération de Recherche” will be composed of four research units hosting a total of 45 teams, which decipher basic principles governing development, nervous system function, physiology and genome evolution. Interdisciplinarity is a central asset of the future institute. A quarter of the teams have background from physics, mathematics, computational sciences or chemistry and a dedicated program has been implemented to foster interdisciplinary research (i-Bio). The Institute benefits from shared high-end facilities for imaging, animal housing and phenotyping, bioinformatics, and protein biochemistry.
Applicants are primarily expected to be at an early stage of their research career (with 2-8 years of post-doctoral experience) although high-quality senior applications will be considered as well. Selected applicants will be asked to apply for start-up funding such as the ATIP-Avenir programme, FRM "amorçage", Junior Professor Chair, ANR support or ERC, and will be supported to secure a permanent research position in France if they don't already hold one. Applicants should be fluent in English. Knowledge of French is not mandatory.
We invite candidates of any nationality including scientists already established in France to apply. Upon their selection, successful applicants will be allocated a starting package of 300 k¤ (to be used before the end of 2024) and lab/office space in one of the 5 institutes of CORTEX. Candidates having no permanent position will be expected to apply for a tenured position at the CNRS, INSERM or University Claude Bernard Lyon1 and secure further funding. CORTEX will provide guidance with these steps.
