PhD

The PhD project will focus on the study of the cognitive, emotional, and social mechanisms involved in information processing and resistance to misinformation during adolescence. It will aim to better understand the factors that promote information literacy and critical evaluation of information, and to contribute to the design and evaluation of innovative interventions for misinformation prevention and the strengthening of critical thinking skills.

We are looking for a highly motivated PhD candidate to study the mechanisms, dynamics and effects of neuromodulation in the olfactory cortex, focusing on cholinergic and GABAergic inputs from the basal forebrain. The project will primarily use fiber photometry recordings and optogenetic stimulations (Y. Sych, et al., Nature Methods 16, 553 (2019)) in mice performing an olfactory behavioral task.
The project is co-supervised by two scientists with complementary expertise, Y. Sych and D. Desaintjan. The candidate will be surrounded by researchers with diverse skills ranging from cellular and molecular neurobiology to neural network physiology and computational neuroscience. The position is fully funded for 36 months through a grant awarded in 2025 by the ANR, France's primary research funding agency.

La thèse étudie les mécanismes neuronaux de la formation d'une mémoire flexible chez la larve de Drosophila melanogaster. Le projet combine approches comportementales, neurogénétiques, imagerie calcique in vivo et données de connectome pour analyser l'apprentissage et la mémoire.

Cette thèse du projet ERC-Synergy NASCE étudie les interactions entre régions cérébrales lors de l'analyse de scènes auditives naturelles. Elle mobilise des données MEG et SEEG, des analyses de connectivité, des méthodes multivariées et des chaînes d'analyse Python.

Le projet étudie l'effet du vieillissement sur la synchronisation inter-cérébrale lors d'interactions sociales, à partir de mesures EEG, ECG et fNIRS chez des adultes jeunes et âgés. La thèse couvre la conception expérimentale, l'acquisition et l'analyse de données, l'apprentissage automatique et la valorisation scientifique.

La thèse porte sur la représentation des événements sociaux et non sociaux dans l'esprit et le cerveau humains, chez les nourrissons et les adultes. Le projet mobilise notamment l'IRMf, l'EEG et la fNIRS pour étudier les corrélats neuronaux et la cognition humaine.

La thèse étudie le rôle de protéines de surface dans la biologie des cellules souches de glioblastome et leurs interactions avec le microenvironnement tumoral. Le projet combine cultures et co-cultures avec neurones et astrocytes, analyses moléculaires et fonctionnelles, organoïdes et modèles murins.

Le projet vise à identifier les voies neurales actives pendant le sommeil paradoxal qui recrutent les neurones adultes nouvellement formés du bulbe olfactif et à déterminer leur rôle causal dans l'activation neuronale, la survie cellulaire et l'apprentissage olfactif.

Le projet étudie comment le sommeil paradoxal contribue à l'apprentissage perceptif olfactif via la régulation des neurones adultes nouvellement formés dans le bulbe olfactif et la réorganisation de l'activité cérébrale liée à l'apprentissage. Le projet de thèse vise à élucider l'évolution de la sensation de pression chez le zooplancton et les mécanismes neuronaux associés. Les travaux mobiliseront notamment microscopie in vivo, neurobiologie expérimentale, génétique et analyses comportementales.

Le projet vise à identifier les voies neurales actives pendant le sommeil paradoxal qui recrutent les neurones adultes nouvellement formés du bulbe olfactif et à déterminer leur rôle causal dans l'activation neuronale, la survie cellulaire et l'apprentissage olfactif. Les approches annoncées comprennent polysomnographie, manipulation du sommeil paradoxal, traçage rabique monosynaptique, approches virales, optogénétique, photométrie de fibre et cartographie cérébrale quantitative.

The study will involve a comparison between several species of primates (capuchin monkeys, baboons, great apes, humans), which will enable us to contrast the cognitive and social prerequisites involved and their impact on the performance of individuals within each species. The primates will be studied at several sites across Europe (zoos) with populations accustomed to performing cognitive tasks.

This PhD project will investigate the emergence of body representations from infancy to childhood by combining functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), electroencephalography (EEG), and behavioural approaches.

This PhD project aims to investigate how gut microbiota variation shapes cognitive abilities and division of labour in the honey bee (Apis mellifera).

The PhD project will first investigate whether thematic and word-for-word repetition differentially influence perceived truth for both trivia and conspiracy statements. In a second step, the project will examine whether retrieving verbatim (literal) and gist (meaning-based) memory representations contributes to these effects, using an original experimental procedure and multinomial processing tree models.

The main objective of this thesis is to deepen our understanding of individual cognitive and brain specificities, with the ambition of leveraging the most developed and/or preserved capacities while bypassing altered or less efficient cognitive strategies.

The candidate will integrate quantitative 3D histology and tissue biomechanics, oculomotor behavioral tests in mutant mice, and mathematical modeling, to develop a predictive multiscale framework linking muscle structure to coordinated motor outputs. The ability to categorize sounds - distinguishing a human voice from background noise, recognizing a distress call despite ambient interference - is a fundamental cognitive function of the brain. When this ability is impaired, as in autism spectrum disorder the consequences on quality of life can be profound. Yet the neural mechanisms by which the brain forms auditory categories remain largely unknown.
