The CORTEX Laboratory of Excellence consortium aims to better understand the brain and human cognition, based on systems level studies of networks and interactions at multiple scales, ranging from neurons to individuals. CORTEX gathers high-profile research teams from five institutes of biology (SBRI, CRNL, ISC, INMG, GATE) embedded in a stimulating environment of hospitals, medical faculties and universities in Lyon, France (https://labex-cortex.universite-lyon.fr/). CORTEX benefits from multiple technological platforms, from single cell transcriptomics and microscopy, to PET-MRI and intracerebral EEG to conduct state-of-the-art research. Our collective aim is to study brain functions, at molecular, cellular and organism scales, using a wide panel of approaches and biological models, from drosophila to non-human primate and human, with both fundamental and clinical objectives.

CORTEX is launching an international call 'Chair of Excellence' to recruit an outstanding early-career or established researcher to develop his/her project within the broad spectrum of neuroscience fields related to CORTEX interests, including neurodevelopment and large-scale network dynamics. We are particularly interested in researchers applying cutting-edge methods that would strengthen our existing expertise in neuro-imaging, high field MRI, omics, and cellular and molecular neurosciences.

We invite candidates of any nationality including scientists already established in France to apply. Upon their selection, successful applicants will be allocated a starting package of 300 k€ (to be used before the end of 2024) and lab/office space in one of the 5 institutes of CORTEX. Candidates having no permanent position will be expected to apply for a tenured position at the CNRS, INSERM or University Claude Bernard Lyon1 and secure further funding. CORTEX will provide guidance with these steps.

1) a cover letter explaining their motivation to join the neuroscience community of Lyon, CV (2 pages),
2) a summary of the scientific achievements (3 pages)
3) a research project proposal, highlighting the possible synergies with CORTEX research teams (4 pages).

Two letters of reference should be sent directly by the referees to Jean Louis Bessereau. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an on-site interview.
