DETAILS OF THE OFFER | Working place: Cognitive Science and Psycholinguistics Laboratory / CNRS Missions: The position is part of a collaborative project funded by the CNRS and the University of Chicago, awarded to Sharon Peperkamp (Paris) and Alan Yu (Chicago). The PhD student will be based at Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris, but will visit the University of Chicago at the start of the project for a one-month training session in the EEG research protocol developed by Alan Yu. The project focuses on individual differences in neural encoding of the speech signal at both the subcortical and cortical levels in non-native speech perception. Specifically, it aims at examining to what extent the neural encoding of acoustic-phonetic input (as measured with EEG) predicts success in perceptual learning of new phonological contrasts.
