Postdoctoral researcher: Impact of the gut microbiota on cognition in honey bees

Working place: Research Center on Animal Cognition (CRCA) based on the campus of the University of Toulouse 3

Missions:

As part of the ERC-funded project Micro-Cog, the participant will assess the contribution of inter-individual variability in gut microbiota composition to cognitive variability under semi-natural conditions.

Activities:

• Generation of gnotobiotic bees
• Cognitive assays
• Analyses of the gut microbiota composition (qPCR and sequencing)
• Data analyses and statistics
• Communication of the results (publications, conferences, etc.)
• Co-supervision of students

Qualifications:

Strong background in at least one of the two fields involved in the project: microbial ecology and/or animal behaviour.

• Strong curiosity and taste for multidisciplinary approaches.
• Dexterity, patience and rigor for the experimental work.
• Effective oral and written communication skills in English
• Skills in data analysis and statistics are an advantage (R or other language)
