Details of the offer

The postdoctoral fellow will study the mechanisms underlying the function of neurons throughout life and in pathological contexts. Specifically, this postdoctoral project aims to identify and characterise the molecular programmes that regulate neuronal activity and the structural components of neurons, such as neurites and synapses, from developmental stages to adulthood. The project will investigate how these molecular programmes contribute to neuronal stability and plasticity, and how their deregulation can lead to dysfunction and behavioural changes in pathological conditions, including neurodegenerative diseases. The project will primarily use Drosophila as a model organism due to its conserved and well-characterised neurobiological principles. It will also involve a combination of molecular biology techniques, including the generation of transgenic tools, gene expression analysis and advanced imaging.

-Optimise genetic and digital tools to study Drosophila behaviour, including analysis of locomotor parameters, using analytical methods and appropriate software (e.g. DeepLabCut and Python).
-Design different experimental approaches, including genetics and immunostaining, to analyse and study protein-DNA and protein-protein interactions.
-Participate in the supervision and training of team members (Masters and PhD students).
-Contribute to funding applications, scientific valorisation efforts and neuroscience outreach activities.

The work will be carried out as part of the ANR ERC-Tremplin project on "Emergence and Maintenance of Neuronal Function and Behavior in the Fly", led by Dr. Raouf Issa, within the MNSB team (Maintenance of the Nervous System and Behavior) and the Brain Plasticity Laboratory at ESPCI Paris - PSL University.

Eligibility criteria

The candidate must hold a PhD in biology, genetics, neuroscience or related life science discipline, or equivalent research experience. In addition In addition, the candidate must have the following skills.
-Proficiency in software such as Python or MatLab for behavioural analysis and data processing.
-Experience of data storage and management on open source platforms and databases.
-Strong ability to analyse complex data and understand the underlying scientific processes.
